Judging A Book By It's Cover

Sometimes we meet people and assess them based on their outward appearance...to our own detriment!!!
Yes our own detriment because this act in it's self is absolutely unwise..."pun intended"!!!
Yours truly is guilty of this from time to time...We sometimes have the tendency to want to box people into compartments we've created for them in our minds...

So a guy who's trousers refuses to cooperate with the force of gravity(lol) is not cool and when a girl wears a scandalous outfit, that makes her a slut....
Gibberish I say!!! Absolute nonsense...it does not work that way...trust me, I should know...
A recent global case is that of the beautiful singer Susan Boyle...I watched the clip on You Tube and when she said she wanted to be as famous as a well known singer, everyone right down to the judges snickered at her and thought she was just another joker...when she opened her mouth to sing, she became a HIT at the cute age of 47!!!(Another blog topic for another day...)

I guess all I'm trying to say is sometimes or should I say oftentimes,we judge people instantly without giving them a chance to prove themselves...I am guilty too and so are you (...sometimes...admit it!!!) but this ought not to be...
Well...guilty or not, let me hear what you have to say on this...have a beautiful week....

P.S
Tried adding the Susan Boyle song but couldn't figure it out...can anyone tell me how to do that...no...I'm not technologically retarded..I just don't have a clue!!!:-)

Well.. I'd agree with your point - albeit with a caveat... Since we as human being know that other human beings judge books by their covers, do we not need to take a good look at our covers, to make sure they pass the right message across?

Hmmm...you have a point there...another yarnz for another post!!!...since they say you're "addressed the way you dress" right?
But what if there's nothing you can do about your current cover? what do you then do?...do you break a bank or do you just leave it in the hands of fate?

Thought provoking in it's own way..
I'm assuming you were trying to embed the video but no luck, right?

Click here for a link that might bring you up to scratch..
i'm guilty of it too, sometimes, but I'm having to agree with Danny B, we all know we are judged by outward appearances, as such, those of us who care adjust our appearances to match the image we want to portray, and those of us that dont are happy being ourselves

Haven't been on here in a short minute. Loving the new look/color. Green is my fav ;)

In re the post, we are all guilty as charged. We judge a book by it's cover because they say "first impression is everything" That's just life. Do I agree that we need to do less of that, absolutely!!!!

yes i think i am guitly as charged, sometimes though. That is human nature, but we can try to change..

I'd have to agree with Danny. I think we should try to not judge people before knowing them but I am now talking about pure looks and not the way people dress. When it comes to how people dress however..it is some truth to those stereotypes. I mean why dress like a hoe when U know it looks cheap if you don't want to be perceived as one? But sure, sometimes people just forgot to look in the mirror lol.

True, we must not judge a book by its cover but we must endeavour to send the right message across...i am not a loose woman but i wear provocative clothing items all the time...there's a message i am sending that way.
I am learning though, that sometimes, what lies within is not determined by what i see outside!

No. 9, not so bad eh!
It's a default setting, we see people and size them up instanta!
it determines how we relate with them in the next second, sometime in the future or never. It's human nature...to kiss ass and 'downgrade', what's important is that we learn that 'everyone deserves a chance'

Assumption is really the mother of all mistakes...

You are right!
No one should judge people just by what they see.
I am guilty too .sometimes...or is it often times? God forgive me!

hmm i feel u..but i also believe you will be addressed by the way you are dressed..its only human nature..

i have to agree with Danny

and when i say dress i dont just mean aso, cloth..i mean the way we appear, talk, behave etc
We are all guilty of making assumptions about people based on what we see. But first impressions are hard to correct. Hmmm

Good points made.It is what is in the book or what comes out from the person that determines a lot.

The wise thing to do basically is NEVER JUDGE at all times. Can you imagine if God Almighty did? We would never have had the privilege of having Jesus in our lives.

Good topic, incidentally I also covered it.

God bless

I think it's just human to do that. We always want to have a frame of reference. We want to know how to address people, what to say and how to say it.

That's how we judge if people are dangerous or not. We want to know if we should stay and talk or just get out of there fast!

That's how we know if we can be friends with this person or not. We need something to work with until we have further information. It's with the further information that we make our final judgment.

Care must be taken however not to judge too harshly at first

My 2 cents!
